The Muslim Student Union at UC Irvine seeks to reach out to those less fortunate through various means, be it through joining the fight against cancer, raising money for countries devastated by disasters, or feeding the homeless. Humanitarian outreach is integral to MSU, in fulfilling our religious duty to help those in need.
Assisting local high school students who took an initiative to hold a quarterly homeless feeding at the Santa Ana Civic Center, MSU and high school students were able to help provide a full nourishing meal for the needy. Previously, the HS MSAs were awarded the Dream Grant, which provided funding for their homeless feeding project with $1300.
Relay for Life
MSU has been participating in Relay for Life for the past three years. Over those years the MSU team has raised approximately $8000 and was the #1 fundraising team on campus in 2011! Relay for Life is a great opportunity to come together with all different walks of life regardless of religion, race, or ethnicity under one cause: to fight cancer.
MSU hosts quarterly blood drives on campus through the American Red Cross. Every life is precious and worth saving, the Quran states, “And whoever saves [a life] – it is as if he had saved mankind entirely” (5:32).
MSU seeks to reach out to those less fortunate through actively engaging in different opportunities on campus and in the community as well as enriching our education at UCI so we can help others.
